The Edmonds Independents are a community of Special Olympics teams based in the Edmonds–Lynnwood area. We offer year-round sports opportunities including Track & Field, Soccer, Bocce, Flag Football, Bowling, and Basketball. Our athletes compete in Special Olympics Washington (SOWA) events, and all activities follow official SOWA guidelines.

Our program has been running for over 20 years, providing athletes with intellectual disabilities the chance to compete, grow, and build lasting friendships in a supportive and inclusive environment. Today, more than 100 athletes and coaches are part of the Edmonds Independents.

We are supported by the Edmonds Independents Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The Foundation provides critical financial and operational support for our teams, coaches, volunteers, and families.

Our mission is to offer year-round Special Olympics and related activities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Our vision is to create opportunities for athletes to develop physical fitness, courage, joy, and meaningful friendships—with their families, teammates, and the broader community.

We rely on a strong network of volunteers—from coaches to event helpers to behind-the-scenes organizers. Whether you're interested in coaching, cheering, assisting with logistics, or supporting our athletes and families, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference.
